Lech Walesa receives Ronald Reagan Freedom Award.
Today (May 24) President Lech Walesa will attend the Ronald Reagan Centennial Gala in Washington D.C. during which he will be honored with the Ronald Reagan Centennial Freedom Award. This Award is presented
as a highlight of the 100th birthday of Ronald Reagan. Lech Walesa will receive it in honor of his “lifelong dedication to freedom and humanitarian efforts on behalf of the people of Poland”.
From 1994 the Award is presented by Nancy Reagan. In her letter to Lech Walesa Mrs. Reagan wrote: “The parallels between your life’s work and my husband’s efforts to end the Cold War continue to serve as an inspiration throughout the world”.
As part of a year of celebrations to mark the 100th birthday of the former US president, a statue of Ronald Reagan is to be unveiled in Poland this autumn. The statue is build under the auspices of Lech Walesa.
