Press Release
In view of a great interest in the 2nd Edition of Civic Academy organized by the Lech Walesa Institute, recruitment procedure has been extended until 15 August. The international summer school will take place in the Tricity from 28 Sept. to 2 Oct. Among the speakers, Prof. Zygmunt Bauman, President Lech Walesa, and Prof. Benjamin Barber have confirmed their participation.
Civic Academy is space for debate for the future leaders of Western Europe with their counterparts from the Eastern Partnership countries. In the era of crisis that the world has been living, it is of utmost importance to openly speak of values. Next steps in this world should be taken by the coming generation. I do hope that young Europeans do not disappoint us and that they believe in the purpose of common Europe as strongly as we do, remarks President Lech Walesa.
Civic Academy is a project targeted at young public life leaders from Poland, EU and Eastern Partnership countries. The event will form part of the European Forum of New Ideas agenda held by the Polish Confederation of Private Employers Lewiatan to celebrate the Polish Presidency of the EU Council. Debated issues will focus on the most pressing economic and civilizational challenges facing Europe. During Civic Academy participants will attend sessions, panel debates, and workshops, as well as meetings with representatives of culture, business, and politics.
It will certainly serve as a perfect platform for the exchange of political views on the matters essential for the shape of the present-day Europe and the world.
Civic Academy was for me an important experience, providing me first of all with the opportunity for networking and sharing views with outstanding individuals. The organizers of Civic Academy set exceptionally high standards with its first edition last year; I am quite confident that this year’s edition will be equally successful in every respect, says Piotr Żakowiecki, student at Hertie School of Governance.
Applying candidates are to comply with several criteria: they must be under 35, have to speak English, and be able to document their public and social service.
The Application Form can be filled online at the Lech Walesa Institute’s website: www.ilw.org.pl.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, The Konrad Adenauer Foundation, Civic Institute, and Kostrzewa PR are the Civic Academy’s Partners.
