Lech Walesa participates in the 18th Economic Forum in Krynica

On 11th September during a plenary session „European dilemmas: where does heart of Europe beat?" attended by, i.a., former President of Sri Lanka Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, Deputy Secretary General of NATO Jiří Šedivý, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of France Roland Dumas, and dr. Jan Kulczyk, President Lech Walesa stated: 'We are not prepared to lead and strengthen Europe when the social gap becomes wider. 10% of people control 90% of world's wealth. If in a few decades we do not increase the number of haves threefold, the population of Earth runs the risk of a major catastrophe.

The president stressed that bringing up people in the spirit of integrity should become a foundation for a new Europe. 'We should start erecting new values, rising over nationalities and over religions, both within the European Union and in relations with other global powers. These common values will become meeting grounds for building strong bonds and common future'.

Lech Walesa also took part in a discussion panel devoted to the memory of professor Bronisław Geremek, 'Bronisław Geremek - a man and the history'. The panel, with a honorary patronate of President Walesa, was attended by: professor's son Marcin Geremek, a Belgian Le Soir journalists Leopold Unger and others. The discussion was moderated by Denis MacShane, a British MP.
