On 5th September 2008 in the Royal Castle in Warsaw a conference organized by the Lithuanian Embassy took place, under a title „'Solidarity - Sąjūdis: Beginning of the Strategic Partnership'.
At a Polish-Lithuanian round table in the Royal Castle in Warsaw sat former opposition activists of Solidarity tradition. The conference was opened by professor Andrzej Rottermund, director of the Royal Castle, followed by the speeches from Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Poland and Lithuania - Radosław Sikorski and Petras Vaitiekūnas. After the opening of the conference, speeches were delivered by the honorary guests of the Round Table, President Lech Walesa and professor Vytautas Landsbergis, a Honorary Chairman of Sąjūdis, former Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Sejmas, Member of European Parliament. The discussion was led by professor Andrzej Friszke and dr. Česlovasa Laurinavičius.
The following topics were covered during the conference:
- 'Solidarity and Sąjūdis: from distrust to cooperation'
- '1988- 1991 international environment - the situation of Poland and Lithuania'
- 'Lithuanian Poles and Polish Lithuanians, and the challenges of tradition, identity and integration'
The participants included Adam Michnik, Janusz Onyszkiewicz, Zbigniew Piotr Janas, Bogdan Lis, Andrius Kubilius, Virgilijus Čepaitis, Bronislavas Kuzmickas, Česlav Okinčic, Emanuelis Zingeris.
