Research and Editorial Project "Encyclopaedia of Freedom"

Concept of the project

"We may possibly be the only nation in today's world which has grounds to honour several million citizens for having achieved incredible deeds. It is high time we gave names to the so far nameless crowd of heroes. Children should know the truth about their fathers. The Polish people have the right to know who they owe freedom and independence to"
Lech Walesa

Such view was the grounds of the project. The publication will consist of series of volumes under a common title Encyclopaedia of Freedom. The series being prepared right now is called "Freedom People". The multi-volume publication will include biographies of the members of NSZZ "Solidarnosc, NSZZ "Solidarnosc" of Individual Farmers, NSZZ "Solidarnosc" of Craftsmen, Independent Students' Unions (NZS) and other informal members of the Solidarnosc movement.
Recently, all the popular press published a sociological questionnaire which will allow the authors to establish a necessary data base.

A following series entitled "Freedom Structure" is to cover the history of the establishment of national and regional organisational structures of the independent trade union, factory and strike committees, dissident groups, underground publications and all other structures associated with the "Solidarity" movement. The third planned series entitled "Freedom Strategy" will present the strategy and tactics of the Solidarity movement.
"Freedom Chronicle", in turn, will be devoted to the struggle of "Solidarity", yet presented in the forms of chronicles.
The fifth series will include biographies of the individuals around the world who significantly contributed to the freedom of the peoples.
