"Expressing
his support for the idea, the President of the
Sejm of the Republic of Poland trusts that this
exceptionally important and necessary publication
will become not only a source of valuable information,
but will also be a way of acknowledgement of
the people of "Solidarity".
From the letter of Slawomir Rybicki, the
General Director of the Sejm's President Secretariat.
"I am glad
that the works on the "Encyclopaedia of
Freedom" have already begun, as it is an
exceptionally valuable scientific and research
initiative. The aim of this undertaking was
explained by President Lech Walesa at the first
meeting of the Programme Council: it is to present
the more complex manner than ever before the
effort of the whole Nation and to honour the
average members of the "Solidarity"
who were the true heroes of the struggle for
Poland's independence".
From the letter of Jerzy Buzek, President
of the Polish Cabinet.
"The ideals,
merits and legend of "Solidarity"
are our national treasure and should be promoted
at home and abroad. This is why I will gladly
participate in the works of the Programme Council".
From the letter of Radoslaw Sikorski, Under-secretary
of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
"I also share
the opinion that there is a need to create a
reliable historical documentation of the "Solidarity"
movement, and I will gladly participate in the
works of the project's Programme Council."
From the letter of Jan Litynski, member of
the Polish Sejm.
"I consider
the idea of publishing an encyclopaedia containing
biographies of the members of "Solidarity",
describing the history of that movement and
other underground structures to be a very precious
initiative, which will render it possible for
the future generations to know more about the
contemporary history of Poland."
From the letter of Czeslaw Bielecki, member
of the Polish Sejm, President of the Foreign
Affairs Committee.
"I am happy
to receive an invitation to participate in the
works of the Lech Walesa Institute Foundation
Council for the "Encyclopaedia of Freedom"
project [
]. I will do my best to take
part in the work and the following meetings
of the Council.
From the letter of Bronislaw Geremek, member
of the Polish Sejm, former President of the
Foreign Affairs Committee and former Foreign
Minister.
"President Zbigniew Bujak thinks that the
idea is commendable. (...) "Solidarity"
should not be identified only with the names
of the activists of the highest level, as the
structure of the organisation was created by
the average members of the Union and activists
of the lower levels. Without their mass participation
and involvement, the changes and the powerful
position of the union, which could not be ignored
by the ruling powers of Poland at that time,
would not have been possible. The nameless members
are the heroes of those events and they should
have a permanent place in our contemporary history."
From the letter of Jacek Kapica, Director
of the Secretariat of the Central Customs Office
President.
