Lech Wałęsa

We’ve showed that Poles, no matter how hard the situation is, are always able to cooperate. It’s a success of both sides. [...] we achieved all we could achieve in this situation. We will achieve the rest as well, as the most important thing belongs to us: our independent, self-governing trade unions. They are the guarantee of our future!

Lech Wałęsa

About the founder

Lech Wałęsa’s life is inseparably connected with the Solidarity movement and Polish way towards freedom in 1989.

”Lech Walesa’s activities have been characterised by a determination to solve his country’s problems through negotiation and cooperation without resorting to violence. He has attempted to establish a dialogue between the organisation he represents – Solidarity – and the authorities. The Committee regards Walesa as an exponent of the active longing for peace and freedom which exists, in spite of unequal conditions, unconquered in all the peoples of the world” - Nobel Peace Prize Committee, 1983
